## Who is this girl talking about motherhood?

*Hi again! I'm your mom- friend, Liz Althouse, owner and writer of this corner of the interweb.*
*You can call me Liz.*

I'm a mom who never wanted to be a mom (yepppppppp), but I also never wanted to give up my career. Then married my amazing husband and later I gave birth to a tiny little lady. I whole heartedly believed that I would be back to work at least by the time she was 1 year old.

Welp, she's gonna be 4 next year, and I haven't gone back to my interpreting career yet (gosh, being a mom is such a weird space to be in). **I feel like I had to tear down everything I thought I would be** before becoming a mom and readjust, my wants, needs and desires because my heart changed so drastically and that was such a turn of events in my life.

**What's my career, you ask?**
Oh. I'm a sign language interpreter.
But that's not all, I am also a certified dog trainer, a tennis pro, and currently I am a virtual assistant. Honestly, I'm a forever learner and can't say I've ever been bored of finding things I like to do.

Other than that, **I am building out this mom-community** and sharing pieces of my life in these blogs. (I've also always wanted to write, I've tried many times but I've stopped too soon.... and that was the doubt talking).

***I truly think we (moms & aspiring moms) need a place where we can feel like we belong and understood while we are in this stage of life.***

It's *such* a complex stage of life that we think *should be easier*.

But, one minute you're trying to figure out how schedule a haircut you won't have to cancel last minute by coordinating your **trusted** babysitter, waiting for your partner, or rearranging your entire day. The next, you're wondering how your friendships have changed since being a mom, how to balance work and family, whether you're making the right decisions for your child, and where the heck ***you*** fit into all of it.

It can be confusing, lonely and exciting all at the same time.
If you're a mom already, you get it.

## So, I've been on a journey of enlightenment.

I've always had this feeling that I never fit in anywhere, like a square peg in a round hole. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, being told I was "adopted" by my brother because no one really understood me. *(I actually called myself Princess* Lizzy, *Queen of the Aliens).* They couldn't understand why I never backed down and I couldn't understand why everything around me was so hard.

Come to find out, hello AuDHD, oh, 2/4 generator, oh, *(I always knew this)* Scorpio, oh the anger and resentment, the list goes on and on. I've put in countless hours to understand myself and get to a point where I could be able to...**dare I say it, like being around myself.**

So, **choosing** how I want to show up in motherhood, work, relationships, and life feels **POWERFUL**. I've figured it all out, and I'm perfect now....no... hehe...just kidding...because I'm finally giving myself room to explore what actually works for me.

## Here's what you'll find around here

I love talking about motherhood, finding myself again, work, business, money, being a military family, life, dreams and figuring out what comes next.

This blog is where you get to know me, my experiences, and the things I'm thinking about. This isn't going to be another place telling you that you need to start a business, wake up at 5 a.m., homeschool your children, or follow some magical formula to become the best version of yourself.

Sure, you definitely can, it's completely up to you and whatever life stage you are in. ***But, girlfriend, you've got options and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.***

Not only that, but when you read something I've written and think:
"I thought I was the only one.", "Huh, I've never looked at it that way.", "Ooo, maybe I can give myself permission to try something different.", "I have a story that might help someone else, too."*...*

***(I fully understand that every mom has different circumstances, responsibilities, resources, and seasons of life. So, not everything will resonate, and that's okay.)***

...I'm just happy you're here and even if I connect with another mom, it makes everything worth it.

## One last thing before you go.

I am building the Mom Community (still workshopping the name). One thing I really want to make clear is that this isn't a place where we go to agree on everything. ***We don't have to parent the same way, make the same decisions, have the same goals, or even be in the same season of life to learn from one another.***

Maybe sleep training worked for you. Maybe it didn't work for someone else. Maybe you breastfed, formula-fed, worked outside the home, stayed home, homeschooled, or sent your kids to school.

Our experiences are different, and I think that's part of what makes a community and ***respectfully sharing them is so valuable***. This is a space where we can say, "This is what worked for us," or "Have you ever thought about this?" without assuming we know what's best for someone else.

I know how lonely it can feel when you're trying to figure something out and the people around you don't quite understand.

I've been in situations where I desperately needed someone to listen, share their experience, or help me see something I hadn't considered.

You get it, sometimes, one conversation can make you feel a little less alone. Sometimes, hearing another mom's story can help you make a decision that changes everything.

The little mom community (again, still workshopping the name) I'm building is where we get to know each other, share our experiences, ask questions, and find some of that understanding we might be missing.

***Because I think we could all use a little more connection, and a place where we don't have to feel like we are a square peg in a round hole.***

## So, welcome!

I'm glad you're here. And please, don't be a looky-loo. Tell me what you're thinking, share your stories, *kindly* challenge me to look at something differently, or just say hello.

There's room for all of us here.

Until Next Time 🫶🏻
\-Liz
